TOXCON 2012: Toxicology at the Crossroad

Interdisciplinary Toxicology Conference &
Advanced Toxicology Course

August 27-31, 2012 - The High Tatras - Stará Lesná - Slovakia

TOXCON

INTERDISCIPLINARY TOXICOLOGY CONFERENCE

&

ADVANCED TOXICOLOGY COURSE

TOXCON 2012 will start with the educational seminar “Advanced Toxicology Course” in which toxicological experts will impart their knowledge to young scientists interested in this field of research. The educational seminar will be followed by a toxicological meeting.

During the two-day educational course the participants will receive comprehensive information on the basic principles of toxicology, comparison of in vitro and in vivo toxicology and on the use of advanced and alternative techniques.

The main topics of the following meeting will be environmental and industrial toxicology, experimental and clinical toxicology and important problems of military toxicology. The individual conference contributions (lectures, poster presentations, working groups) will be spread over 3 days of the rich scientific program. Each day will be dedicated to one central topic presented by a highly experienced key-note speaker.

An important part of the Conference will be the discussion on toxicity testing within the new EU legislation (EC 1907/2006) – REACH, whose aim is to improve the protection of human health and the environment through better and earlier identification of intrinsic properties of chemical substances.

The programme of the conference will include also award presentations of young scientists to encourage them in giving lectures in the field of their interest.

History

The history of bilateral meetings of Czech and Slovak toxicologists began 14 years ago. Despite the split of the former Czechoslovak Federation into two independent states in 1993, scientific as well as friendly bonds between Slovak and Czech researches have never been interrupted. Moreover, mutual cooperation of both countries continues on a higher level within bilateral scientific projects, by organising conferences and exchange study stays, now in the frame of the common European Union. In order to carry on the long tradition of interdisciplinary toxicological conferences regularly held in the Medical House in Prague, since 1996 these meetings were held in various Slovak and Czech locations organised by turns in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Over the last years there has been a growing interest in attending toxicological conferences. Scientist not only from toxicology quarters but also from other related disciplines, such as pharmacology, physiology, endocrinology, oncology or biotechnology take part in.
